Food & Treat Tips

Well balanced diet.

Just like with people, it’s important that your dog have a well balanced diet of Protein, Fat, Vitamins and Minerals, and Fiber. Once you have decided on a food, buy a small amount and see how your dog reacts to it.

Do your homework.

There are minimum requirements of nutrients in dog food, but not all dog foods are the same. Make sure you do some homework on different brands and types of food. As with most things, you get what you pay for. Many inexpensive foods use lower quality ingredients, and contain a lower amount of nutrients, ultimately making you feed your pet more than you would with a more expensive food.

Feed the right amount.

How much food your dog needs depends on the breed, age, size, and activity level. You want to make sure that your dog is getting the right amount of nutrition, too little can cause lethargy or stunted growth, too much can cause obesity. Talk to your vet about an appropriate feeding schedule, you can also check the label on your dogs food.

Wet food vs. Dry food.

Dry food is generally the best option for the long term in several ways. Dry food is more easily digestible and chewing helps to remove plaque from your pet’s teeth. Wet food is best used as a treat mixed in with dry food, as a reward for a had days training.

Treats!

There are millions of treats of countless varieties now a days, try out different ones to see what your pup likes! Just be careful not to overindulge, or you risk obesity.
